Y en el centro el dios Genesha, el gran dios elefante. Según la leyenda es hijo de la diosa Parvati, casada con el dios Shiva, que lo concibió y nombró guarda de su puerta. Cuando Shiva volvió a casa y fue a ver a su esposa, Genesha, que no lo conocía, le negó la entrada y Shiva le cortó la cabeza. Parvati lloró tan desconsoladamente que Shiva, compadecido, decidió que le pondría a su hijo la cabeza del primer animal que encontrase y que, casualmente, resultó ser un elefante.
